SafeFlight

The SafeFlight safety margin forecasting system offers airlines a comprehensive source for integrating diverse hazard and risk data into a comprehensive assessment of airspace safety margins and flight risk status. The tool predicts airspace safety margin state four hours ahead, in 15-minute intervals. Hazards that affect an aircraft during the final 60 minutes before landing are monitored continuously. SafeFlight integrates the airspace safety margin forecast with a crew fatigue model to generate a comprehensive flight risk profile. SafeFlight currently predicts safety margins at 26 US airports.

The SafeFlight application is an airline operations safety monitoring and prediction system developed by Robust Analytics and NASA. SafeFlight integrates the ASMET four-hour terminal area safety margin forecast service with airline crew and aircraft assignment data to identify the risk status of an airspace and individual flights. A comprehensive flight risk assessment combines a crew fatigue monitor with potential hazards during the last hour of a flight. These hazards include turbulence, late flight plan changes, runway configuration changes, icing, wet or icy airport surfaces, and recent Go-Arounds. SafeFlight provides airlines with comprehensive monitoring of real-time terminal area hazards and a four-hour forecast of airspace risk status. Users operate SafeFlight through a web application, using a standard web browser.

Robust Analytics offers an airspace and flight safety monitor and prediction solution that gives the airline advance notice of degrading safety conditions. SafeFlight integrates seamlessly with dispatcher workflow, operating through a web application that requires no hardware or software purchase or installation inside an airline’s firewall, and minimizes display footprint.

Differentiator: Robust Analytics offers an airspace and flight safety monitor and prediction solution that gives the airline advance notice of degrading safety conditions. SafeFlight integrates seamlessly with dispatcher workflow, operating through a web application that requires no hardware or software purchase or installation inside an airline’s firewall, and minimizes display footprint.

SafeFlight Benefits: SafeFlight provides airline dispatchers and operations managers with a single, comprehensive solution for monitoring and predicting changing safety conditions in terminal areas, offering improved safety as air transportation recovers from the pandemic disruptions.

Benefit #1 (Forecast): SafeFlight generates four-hour forecasts for airspace risk status, giving airline advance notice of degrading safety conditions.

Benefit #2 (Implementable, fits dispatcher workflow): Robust Analytics offers a web application solution that requires no hardware or software purchase or installation inside an airline’s firewall and minimizes display footprint.

Benefit #3 (Flight Risk Alerts): SafeFlight provides alerts for several potential hazards that can affect aircraft safety in the final 60 minutes before landing, allowing for mitigating actions to prevent costly safety-related events.

Benefit #4 (Better information for decision making): SafeFlight calculates a quantitative measure of how combinations of conditions affect aircraft risk exposure, thereby offering information for better decisions on choosing mitigating actions.
